Rome, termed the eternal city, bustles with people. Travelers and residents all mingle amidst ancient ruins and famed monuments. It wasn't until my sixth visit to Italy, in 2009, that I made it to Rome. My visit was brief but I'm sure I will return.

Ascending the Spanish Steps
This is not a typical view of the Spanish Steps but I love the patterns created in this section of the ascent.
Building on Campo di Fiori
I was drawn to the asymmetrical elements against the soft tonal color of this building.
Cafe Life in Campo di Fiori
I thought this scene captured the essence of café life in Italy, la dolce vita. I have digitally treated this with a slightly posterized look, which I thought added to the presentation.
Descending the Spanish Steps
This image was captured very early on a quiet summer morning, as I descended the Spanish Steps. It was just me and a jogger running up and down the steps.
Night Life Near the Pantheon
The night life in Rome is quite active and full of energy, especially in the summer. I felt that photographing the movement of the activity in front of the Pantheon with a slow shutter speed captured the feel of the city.
The Pines of Rome
This is a composite photograph that I have created using layers of tones and textures from my nature images layered over a view of the skyline dominated by the famed pines of Rome. This is my visual tribute to Respighi's classical symphonic poem "The Pines of Rome".
The Spanish Steps
The Spanish Steps in black and white... just waiting to see if Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck might show up. I guess I was just a few decades too late.
The Roman Forum
This is a composite photograph that I have created using layers of tones and textures from my nature images layered over a view of the Forum and a hillside dominated by the famed pines of Rome. One of my favorite genres of painting is the Hudson River School of artists. These composites are a sort of homage to them.
