Enormous granite boulders strewn across a granite dome is the main feature of Elephant Rocks State Park in the St Francois Mountains of the southern Missouri Ozarks. The geologic feature is fascinating. The St Francois Mountain range is comprised of some of the oldest exposed igneous rocks in North America.

The quarries in this park, once provided the reddish-pink granite that was used for many of the buildings in St. Louis and paved its streets. The boulders strewn across the granite dome instill a sense of wonder and marvel at the powerful forces sculpting this planet.
