Chouteau Island is on the Illinois side of the Mississippi River located just south of the confluence with the Missouri River. A visit to the island one early morning in late autumn found it flooded and the trails impassable. The leaves had fallen from the vines which covered everything vertical, creating a surreal, eerie vine covered landscape on an this island in the Mississippi River.
